My Olympus EP1 is a micro four-thirds lens, so the lenses actually are quite different from a DSLR, for example, my 17mm pancake lens is actually the equivalent of a DSLR 34mm. This new lens goes from 14-150mm, which is like 28-300mm on a regular DSLR, making it effectively a zoom & a telephoto, which, in English, means that a shot from my porch that looks like this with the 17mm:
Can end up looking like this:
As I played with my new lens yesterday, getting ready for a shoot that’s tonight, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for my neighbors, especially if they had plans to murder anyone in the near future. I’ve got my eye on you, decapitated head in my backyard…

I had a photo in the LA Weekly this week, accompanying an interview with my comedian friend Barbara Gray. I also booked another comedian headshot session so I’m very excited about that. But I don’t want to give the impression that this blog is only going to be about photography, there’s just been a surprising amount of activity in that area of my life right now. I’ve been kept very busy in library land lately as well, and will have some things to post about upcoming projects and events soon.
